Semiconductor Metrology with Nanometre Precision Powered by High Performance Computing

Emerging technologies like augmented reality, autonomous driving, and smart sensing depend on advanced photonics and nano-optics, requiring precise nanostructures fabricated with nanometre-level accuracy. Eindhoven-based SME TeraNova addresses the challenge of high-volume production with its patented, in-line, non-destructive quality inspection technology, which uses laser light scattering to measure nanostructure geometry. However, the computational demands of signal analysis for real-time inspection necessitate high-performance computing (HPC). To meet this need, TeraNova is collaborating with 81Watts to develop HPC infrastructure and integrate AI, enabling efficient, real-time quality inspection of photonic nanostructures and strengthening Europe's technological leadership. This project is developed in partnership with EuroHPC and FortissimoPlus

Competitiveness in the Design of Rowing Boats using AI and HPC

Designing Olympic and Paralympic racing shells is an exceptionally challenging task that can be significantly enhanced by leveraging Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), AI, and HPC. Filippi Boats, one of the world’s leading manufacturers of racing shells, is renowned for producing some of the lightest and fastest boats on the market. To further strengthen its competitive advantage, Filippi Boats is embracing cutting-edge technologies, including advanced CFD analysis on HPC platforms, optimization techniques, and AI-driven approaches to automate and refine the development of highly customized rowing shells, Paralympic models included. This forward-looking initiative is being spearheaded by 81Watts in collaboration with the Department of Aerospace Science and Technology at Politecnico di Milano and the School of Mechanical Engineering at the National Technical University of Athens. The project is being carried out in partnership with EuroHPC and FortissimoPlus.

Building European Alliances for Coordinated Oncology Network

The BEACON project enhances the European Cancer Imaging Initiative (EUCAIM) by integrating breast, lung, and prostate cancer screening data into its federated infrastructure. It emphasizes diversity by sourcing imaging data from various European regions, including under-represented areas. BEACON focuses on improving cancer prevention, detection, and treatment through standardized, FAIR-compliant data and AI-powered analysis tools. The project will pilot advanced AI models across 12 medical centers and aims to reach EUCAIM Tier 3 integration, leveraging prior experience from EU-funded federated networks. Led by 81Watts, dissemination efforts will ensure broad visibility through a multidisciplinary communication team and strong European networks. The project is funded by the European Health and Digital Executive Agency (HaDEA).
